Lighting Automation To Your Advantage

We live in the 21st century, a time when technology is harnessed like never before to make our lives easier. A lighting automation system is just one of the ways in which you can make your life more convenient and save money in the long run as well.

A further major reason why people invest in lighting automation is security. There are various types of systems on the market; you could for, example, have motion sensors which will switch on a light when it detects movement in an area. This is great for deterring potential burglars, since they will not know whether the light has been switched on by a person or automatically. You could also have the lights in your offices or store come on at a specific time during the night and control when it will be switched off again – once again to deter trespassers.

Certain systems can even be controlled from your mobile phone. You could, for example, switch on the lights in your house a few minutes before you will be arriving, which is not only very convenient but also good for security reasons.

It’s not just for security reasons that lighting automation works great though, you could save a lot of money using such a system. If you are forever complaining because the kids are leaving lights burning all over the house when they’re not in the room, you could for example have a simple system installed that will switch the lights off a few minutes after the last person has left the room. It will automatically switch on again as soon as somebody enters the room.

These kind of lighting automation systems don’t just have to work using motion sensors, they can also be linked to photo sensors. In this case they will for example switch on the lights as soon as it becomes dark and switch them off again when it gets light in the mornings. Many local authorities use systems like this to control their street lights.
